[ music | Sufjan Stevens-Come on! Feel the Illinoise! ]

10 years ago, it was 1996. Take this survey, post the results, and see how many things have changed since then.

THEN: 12
NOW : 22

2) Where did you go to school?
THEN: Emerson Middle School
NOW : I am DONE! ...but formerly OSU.

3) Where did you work?
THEN: I probably babysat on occasion.
NOW : New York & Co, but I'm on the lookout for something perhaps full-time and better paying!

4) Where did you live?
THEN: Lakewood
NOW : Columbus

5) How was your hairstyle?
THEN: Flat and hanging there or in a ponytail.
NOW : Yeah, just like Amy... not much different.

6) Did you wear braces?
THEN: Yes.
NOW : Nope!

7) Did you wear contacts?
THEN: No.
NOW : Yes.

8) Did you wear glasses?
THEN: Yes, and I HATED them.
NOW : Only at night.

9) Who was your best friend?

NOW : -Mindy, + Csilla, Jana, Megan, Mike, Sharon, Sarah

10) Which of your pets were still alive?
THEN: Tessa
NOW : Lily, although she may be finding a new home if she doesn't stop peeing in everyone's bed :(

11) Who was your boyfriend/girlfriend?
THEN: Yeah...... didn't really talk to boys until 9th grade.....
NOW : Thilo :)

12) Who was your celebrity crush?
THEN: Probably Leonardo Dicaprio?
NOW : David Bowie!

13) Who was your regular-person crush?
THEN: Billy Kelley... oh dear.
NOW : Thilo

14) How many piercings did you have?
THEN: Ears
NOW : Double ear holes and belly button

15) How many tattoos did you have?
THEN: None.
NOW : None.

16) What was your favorite band/singer?
THEN: Probably Ace of Base or someone like that.
NOW : There are many... but I do still like David a lot.

17) Had you smoked cigarettes?
THEN: No.
NOW : Yeah

18) Had you gotten drunk?
THEN: No.
NOW : Ohhhhh yes.

19) Had you driven?
THEN: Nope.
NOW : Yep!

20) If so which car?
THEN: None
NOW : Mostly the good ol' minivan

21) Looking back, are you where you thought you would be in 2006?
Well, I think I still wanted to be an astronaut when I was 12, so... yeah. I'm not really any closer to achieving that than when it was 1996. However, I'm sure my 12-year-old self would be ok with whom I've turned out to be.

Blah, time to go to work :(

A Benadryl-free dream [01 Apr 2006|06:59am]
Ok, so I had a dream where we were all staying in this big house, but I'm not sure where or why; we were just there. Either way, Sara and Csilla decided they were going to rent corpse dates from something similar to an escort service, except the escorts were... dead. You two knew the dates were going to be dead, but just thought it would be interesting to try it out. So, the two guys came up on the porch and rang the bell, looking like well-dressed, probably-pretty-cute-when-they-were-alive zombies. They weren't bloody zombies or anything, they just kind of walked a little funny and there was something weird about their eyes... maybe they were just sockets with no eyes. I didn't look that hard. Anyway, Csilla, you ran upstairs when you saw them because you were going to be sick. Sara, you just wouldn't let us let them in and stayed in the living room peeking out the windows and giggling at them. They were very nice and stayed on the porch until 3:15 (the date was scheduled for 3 in the afternoon), then left.

[ music | Sounds of the Computer Lab, Volume 1 ]

So, it's been awhile...

I'm at the computer lab and it reminded me of the good ole days when I didn't have a computer and had to update this and do anything else internet-related on public computers. So I decided to take a little trip down memory lane! Except I feel like everyone can see what I'm doing and is reading over my shoulder. It's a little creepy.

The reason I'm at the lab is because I had a meeting with my graduation advisor at 10.30 and don't have class until 11.30. The meeting obviously didn't last very long but it was still successful! I went to see about finishing with classes and everything this quarter, but not taking part in commencement until the spring. I thought I had to petition to be able to do this but turns out I just had to fill out another intent to graduate form and put "Spring 06" instead of "Winter 06". Easy as pie!

I originally decided to graduate early because 1. it'll save me about $3000 in loans to pay back, and 2. I'm sick of taking classes. But then the more I thought about it, the more I realized how much I wanted to do commencement in the stadium. I know it's cheesy, but I just feel like it's much more symbolic of the three (technically four, sort of) years I spent here.

Last night I was up until four doing homework for my world population and food class. It sucked. I basically had to chart the demographic transition of this place Chiapas (which I'm not sure actually exists) and draw some graphs and answer a million questions. I could have used Excel to do the graphs, but I don't have that on my computer and really wouldn't know how to use it if I did. Anyway, it reminded me a lot of high school homework. Hopefully it's all done correctly. And hopefully I can stay awake through all my classes today! I just have to make it to 6.30, then I can go home and go to bed.

My mom called me last night to tell me that I'm off my parent's health insurance plan at the end of the month. What?!? Neither of my parents knew that would be happening, or else I think I would have been given a little more time to find something for myself! I apparently also got a letter from Kaiser (where my insurance is now) all about growing up and becoming an adult and opening up a private insurance plan. I'm going to check at work tomorrow to see if there's any sort of plan I can get through them. See, it is all downhill once you turn 22! Growing up is weird.

I've gotta wrap this up and be on my way to class. I hope you've all enjoyed my return to livejournal, however short lived it may be. I really should try to make it somewhat of a habit again. We'll see... :)

Neruda, a poet, "seems... to capture a simple but profound truth about the human condition, suggesting that much of the alienation that seems to characterize modern life has its roots in frantic overactivity, and that such activity cuts us off from the essential experience of being alive, alive in a living world of beauty and suffering.  We are increasingly lost in activity, lost to our friends, our families, and ourselves.  We are more and more out of touch with the rhythms of life.  The frantic pace of our lives means we hve little time for reflection, and no time to be still and reconnect with the underlying meaning of our lives."
